When products, systems, machinery and devices work well and safely, it is often because they meet standards. And the organization responsible for many thousands of the standards which benefit the world is ISO.

The International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) is the international organization defining standards to ensure desirable characteristics of products and services such as quality, environmental friendliness, safety, reliability, efficiency and interchangeability - and at an economical cost. The International Organisation for Standardization defines international standards for business, government and society.

ISO 9001:2008, is the latest edition of the International Standard used by organizations in 175 countries as the framework for their quality management systems (QMS). It provides a set of standardized requirements for a quality management system, regardless of what the user organization does, its size, or whether it is in the private, or public sector. ISO 9001:2008, Quality management system – Requirements, is the fourth edition of the standard first published in 1987 and which has become the global benchmark for providing assurance about the ability to satisfy quality requirements and to enhance customer satisfaction in supplier-customer relationships.

The technical committee TC-176 working for ISO 9001:2008 unites expertise from 81 participating countries and 20 international or regional organizations, plus other technical committees.
