Despite these constraints, the goal remains the same: providing paramedics with reliable, safe vehicles to serve their communities.<\/p><p>At the Coop\u00e9rative des techniciens ambulanciers du Qu\u00e9bec (CTAQ), planning is part of the daily work of Fleet Manager Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Plante. Each year, they renew a portion of their ambulances, ensuring acquisition costs are spread over time while maintaining operational consistency.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-590c405 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" kilometres per vehicle, but recently we\u2019ve pushed some up to 325,000 kilometres while the supply chain was catching up,\u201d explains Plante, who has seven years of fleet management experience, including the last two at CTAQ.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-55a5e3e e-flex In many cases, the patient care module remains in excellent condition, even after years of use. The chassis, however, eventually reaches its mechanical limits as mileage increases and maintenance costs rise.<\/p><p>That\u2019s where remounting comes in.<\/p><p>By transferring a well-maintained patient module onto a new chassis, organizations can extend the life of that module for several additional years.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4e88b01 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"4e88b01\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f9c09a7 elementor-blockquote--skin-border elementor-widget elementor-widget-blockquote\" data-id=\"f9c09a7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"blockquote.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<blockquote class=\"elementor-blockquote\">\n\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-blockquote__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\u201cFrom a sustainability standpoint, it makes sense,\u201d says Plante. \u201cEven when we retire ambulances with more than 300,000 kilometres, the patient module is still in great shape. When new units arrive, ambulances leaving service can sometimes be stored temporarily before being sent for refurbishment.<\/p><p>\u201cWhen new units come in, we keep the ones coming off the road so we can plan their second life,\u201d explains Plante. At the time of the interview, in March 2026, several vehicles were already waiting. \u201cI\u2019ve got three trucks in my yard right now ready for remounting,\u201d he says.<\/p><p>Smaller fleets may not always have that same flexibility. However, Plante believes remounting can still work with proper planning. \u201cYou have to think about the time of year when the operational impact will be easier to manage,\u201d he
