The Demers expertise

Demers Ambulances is the most experienced ambulance manufacturer in North America. Since day one, we have built our reputation on a client-first approach. By working closely with paramedics, we design vehicles that meet real operational needs. With more than 65 years of experience and over 25,000 ambulances in service worldwide, Demers draws on unmatched expertise to deliver solutions that are innovative, reliable, and safe.

Our know-how is built on three pillars: advanced engineering, rigorous manufacturing, and certified testing that ensures top performance in the field.

Engineering

Demers Engineering: Innovation and reliability in every vehicle

Engineering is the foundation of every innovation at Demers. Our team of over 50 mechanical and electrical experts is committed to designing ambulances that consistently push the boundaries of performance and safety. Every project is developed in partnership with clients to deliver functional, impactful solutions.

Five priorities of the Demers Ambulance product development

Designed with paramedics, for paramedics

Each Demers ambulance is developed alongside paramedics and fleet managers. This constant exchange helps us transform operational needs into practical solutions that are often more functional and intuitive than initially imagined. Every design aims to simplify daily operations and improve efficiency in the field.

Lower acquisition and operating costs through smart design

Demers’ innovation is not just about features. Every component is engineered for simplicity, which shortens build time and streamlines maintenance. This approach lowers the total cost of ownership. For example, our aerodynamic roof, developed using advanced design tools, can reduce fuel consumption by up to 12 percent.

Maximize vehicle uptime

Our engineering team makes strategic decisions about components and partners with suppliers known for quality. Standardizing parts and design principles makes maintenance easier and faster. The result is greater reliability and fewer service disruptions.

Flexibility to meet specific operational needs

Ambulance service requirements vary by region and deployment strategy. Demers offers a wide selection of pre-approved options tailored to different configurations. Our care modules integrate seamlessly with a variety of chassis and allow interior layouts to be customized while staying within budget and operational targets.

Safety and compliance are built into every vehicle

Every Demers ambulance is designed to meet and exceed the most stringent local and international standards, including BNQ in Quebec, MOH in Ontario, and U.S. KKK specifications. Clients can count on compliant, reliable vehicles built to support frontline responders so they can focus on saving lives.

Production

Production: 65 years of manufacturing expertise serving EMS

Building safe, high-performance ambulances takes full control of every step in the manufacturing process. At Demers, we combine six decades of experience with production methods inspired by the best practices of the automotive industry. The result is consistent quality and efficiency.

Each year, nearly 600 ambulances are built at our Beloeil facility. Our horizontally integrated production system relies on 18 continuous assembly stations. This model supports multiple product lines and configurations at the same time while allowing for advanced customization.

Certification

Testing and certification: Ensuring safety and performance in the field

Ambulances must offer a safe, functional work environment during urgent calls, long-distance transfers, and everything in between. Every Demers vehicle undergoes strict testing to ensure it performs in all conditions. We meet global standards that cover both regional and international requirements.

No compromise on safety

All testing is overseen by engineers who work independently from the design team. This separation guarantees objectivity and ensures each component meets rigorous standards. The result is a safe workspace for paramedics and patients alike.

Compliance
with the highest standards worldwide

With over 40 certified ambulance models and a presence in more than 40 countries, we ensure every vehicle meets, and often exceeds, the local and international standards of its deployment region. All our models undergo rigorous static and dynamic testing to comply with the most demanding global requirements.

A team of specialists with unmatched expertise

Our dedicated testing and certification team brings nearly 75 years of combined experience. They ensure accurate testing protocols, full understanding of certification requirements, and complete, precise documentation. As a global manufacturer, we conduct 95 percent of the required testing in-house, including:

  • Static load tests to confirm structural integrity
  • Pull tests for pressurized equipment mounts
  • NSVAC seat compliance tests for safety and comfort
  • Light, sound, and voltage tests are essential for emergency response

Test protocols can be adapted to meet specific client needs.

For specialized procedures, we also collaborate with certified external labs, including:

  • PMG Technologies (dynamic impact testing)
  • CRIQ (electromagnetic interference testing)
  • IMMI-CAPE (rollover and crash tests)
  • Calspan (impact simulation testing)

Every Demers ambulance is built and tested to withstand extreme conditions while providing a secure and functional space for paramedics.

Thanks to our rigorous process and in-house expertise, we deliver vehicles that meet standards and exceed expectations in the field.
