During our conversations with EMS leaders last year, we committed to reducing ambulance remount lead time to ease pressure on fleets. Today, we’re delivering on that commitment. Remount lead time is now from 14 to 9 months in Eastern Canada and 6 months in Western Canada, a meaningful improvement for services that depend on predictable vehicle availability.
This gain in speed comes from disciplined operational changes across our Canadian remount centres, not from simplifying the work. Every remount still follows the same engineering-driven approach, the same controlled production steps and the same attention to structural integrity and system compatibility that define our new vehicle builds. The result is a more efficient pathway that continues to protect the quality and reliability paramedics expect from an OEM.
OEM responsibility in safety and compliance
A remount requires far more than transferring a care module onto a new chassis. Chassis platforms evolve across generations, and electrical, structural and mechanical interfaces change with them. Ensuring a safe reintegration demands a precise understanding of the module’s original design and how it must adapt to the current platform.
Under Canadian regulations, any organization performing a remount becomes the final-stage manufacturer in the eyes of Transport Canada, responsible for ensuring the completed vehicle meets all applicable Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS). This responsibility dictates how a remount must be approached: with controlled processes, engineering discipline and a clear respect for the original design intent. Reducing lead time does not change our approach, still no compromise on safety.
What enabled the lead time reduction
The shorter lead time is the result of coordinated, targeted improvements across our Canadian remount centres.
In Eastern Canada, expanded production space, dedicated zones for parts and paint, and a reorganized workflow now support a smoother sequence of operations. These adjustments reduce handoffs, limit bottlenecks and improve the consistency of work performed on each module.
In Saskatchewan, the new remount centre has strengthened its capacity with a dedicated team, upgraded installations and refined scheduling tools that improve visibility across the entire remount process. This structure helps align engineering, service and production steps with fewer interruptions, giving services a clearer and more predictable path from intake to delivery.
Across both regions, these enhancements were made with a single intention: increase efficiency without altering the engineering discipline, quality controls or safety standards that define an OEM-built ambulance.
How remounts strengthens your procurement strategy
EMS providers now have the ability to use remounts more strategically within a broader procurement plan. With a clearer return-to-service window, services can capture the full value of a remount: extending the life of a proven care module, reducing capital expenditures, and limiting material waste without altering the reliability paramedics expect.
