Demers Ambulances was proud to receive the Rayonnement hors région award at the inaugural Illumina Gala, held on April 25 in Chambly and hosted with excellence by the Vallée-du-Richelieu–Rouville Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
This distinction recognizes organizations whose visibility, influence, and reputation extend well beyond their home region, highlighting the reach Demers has built across Canada and internationally while staying rooted in the community where it all began.
The evening celebrated the entrepreneurial energy that defines our local ecosystem, a community we have been closely connected to since 1960. This recognition also arrives in a milestone year, as the company celebrates 65 years of history and innovation. Founded by Paul Demers in Beloeil, Demers Ambulances became, in 2024, the North American leader in ambulance manufacturing.
A tribute to our roots
When accepting the award on stage, Robin Demers, son of the founder and still active at the Beloeil headquarters, reflected on the company’s modest beginnings.
“First, thank you to all our employees,” he shared. “Sixty-five years ago, Paul Demers was building his very first ambulance in the garage behind his funeral home. At the time, there were no ambulance services in the area, and the journey began simply by responding to a need. One step at a time, we reached where we are today. The only real recipe for success is to get up every morning and get to work. In that sense, you are all winners.”
An evening dedicated to regional entrepreneurship
The 2025 Illumina Gala brought together businesses and organizations from every sector: social economy, commerce, services, innovation, and more ; offering an inspiring look at the region’s entrepreneurial landscape.
Chantal Pouliot, Vice President of Human Resources at Demers Ambulances, emphasized the importance of perseverance.
“Like any company, we started small and grew over time. What I find inspiring tonight is seeing so many small businesses gathered here. Demers is proof that anything is possible when you believe in your project, even starting from Beloeil.”
