Missed the buzz at EMS World 2025? Don’t worry, the spotlight moment had Canadian fingerprints all over it. The FXP 174 by Demers drew attention for what it represents: a new way of thinking about how paramedics work, move, and stay protected inside their ambulance. With its redesigned care module, taller rear doors, adaptive lighting, and the return of the iconic FX Action™ Seat, this Type I model sets a new benchmark for safety and ergonomics in motion.
This ambulance design has also been awarded as the top innovation of the year!
From bold concepts to everyday reality
The FXP 174 builds on ideas first developed through the eFX ambulance, not about electrification, but about redesigning the workspace itself. That initiative challenged conventions, asking how an ambulance could function more like a mobile clinical environment than a transport vehicle.
At the heart of that work was the FX Action™ Seat, a patented system that allows paramedics to remain belted while reaching equipment and providing patient care. When the prototype was first shown, paramedics across Canada had the same question: “Can I get that seat on my current truck?” The FXP 174 is the first step to a broader implementation, both in the U.S and Canada.
Inside the FXP 174, when safety meets intelligence
The FXP 174 extends Demers’ design philosophy into every inch of the module. Its innovations aren’t add-ons, they’re thoughtfully engineered to ease the work of paramedics, while enhancing ergonomics, comfort and safety.
• FX Action™ Seat and redesigned layout: reachable compartments and reorganized work surfaces keep essential gear within arm’s length, so paramedic can stay seated and secured while providing care.
• Smarter climate control: a dual-ducted HVAC diffusion system separates hot and cold airflow to maintain ideal comfort for both patients and paramedics.
• Adaptive lighting: fully customizable ceiling and cabinet lighting allow medics to adjust colour and intensity to match the type of care being delivered.
• Higher rear doors and easier access: six inches of additional headroom and an optimized entry path reduce fatigue and prevent injury during patient loading.
• Noise-reducing electric passthrough window: improves communication while minimizing cross-contamination and exterior noise.
• New profiled exterior lighting package with Whelen T-Series lights, allowing performance and dynamic variable intensity
• New smart design of condenser, allowing better performance during toughest conditions, easier maintenance, and rattle noise reduction.
Together, these advancements redefine how an ambulance supports EMS operations, not just during transport, but throughout every moment of care. As a 2025 EMS World Top Innovation Award Winner, the FXP 174 reaffirms Demers’ leadership at the forefront of ambulance design.
Showcasing the FXP 174 in Canada
Following its commercial debut in the United States, the next step is to bring it back home. Over the coming months, Demers will be showcasing this vehicle across the country to gather direct feedback from Canadian chiefs, paramedics, and fleet leaders.
