November 15, 2023 – As EMS technology evolves, Demers Ambulances is proud to introduce the next generation of multiplex systems. The MMC multiplex (Multiplex Modular Connected) strengthens reliability, performance, and connectivity across the ambulance platform. Designed with both paramedics and fleet managers in mind, the system provides digital controls that enhance the working environment while supporting informed maintenance decisions.
Digitalization of ambulance controls
The MMC multiplex features an intuitive, touchscreen-based interface that centralizes control of key ambulance functions, including lighting, Liquid Spring suspensions, and suction systems. Its touchscreen layout improves ergonomics, frees console space, and gives paramedics direct, streamlined access to more functions from a single point of control.
Because the MMC multiplex is built on a modular architecture, it offers greater design and configuration flexibility—supporting a wider range of options and allowing EMS services to adapt the vehicle to their operational needs. New emergency and working light modes further contribute to a safe environment for both patients and EMS personnel.
Engineering that supports uptime and diagnostics
A decentralized architecture distinguishes the system. By reducing wiring complexity, the design supports vehicle payload management and energy use. Wireless diagnostic capability—enabled through Bluetooth—provides real-time remote troubleshooting and shorter service times, helping fleets maximize ambulance uptime.
“The MMC is a natural evolution of the PRAN multiplexing systems used in each of the 15,000 Demers ambulances produced over the last seventeen years. Building on proven technology mastered by our teams allows us to continue delivering consistent support to our customers. In practice, our aftermarket Customer Care team will be better positioned to engage in preventive maintenance, helping EMS services increase ambulance availability and manage maintenance costs,” says Michel Pelletier, Vice-President of Operations and Engineering at Demers Ambulances.
Broadening ambulance capabilities
Interconnectivity remains central to the MMC multiplex. The system interfaces with evolving chassis technologies and provides access to more than 100 signals through AVL-CAN. As telematics becomes increasingly important—especially for electric vehicle deployment—the ability to monitor state of charge at dispatch will be crucial. With more solution providers entering the market, Demers aims to remain brand-agnostic, providing hardware that accommodates broader functionality.
“Demers positions itself as an enabler. Our role is to provide a platform that supports technology beyond basic ambulance operations. The MMC gathers extensive data that can be used to refine fleet management, deployment, and asset planning. Our vision is to maintain compatibility with leading third-party hardware providers,” adds Pelletier. “Ultimately, our purpose is to help customers benefit from emerging technologies that support operational efficiency and enhance patient care. MMC is a foundation for future features and expanded connectivity.”
A progressive rollout of the MMC multiplex is planned across Demers models in North American and international markets.
